CAT Exam 2023- Everything You Need to Know

CAT 2023 Registration is Open!

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow has opened the CAT 2023 registration window on August 2. The official notification for CAT 2023 was released on July 30. This year, CAT will be conducted on November 26, 2023, across approximately 300 test centers in 155 cities throughout India. Dr. Sanjeet Singh, a faculty member at IIM Lucknow, has been appointed as the CAT 2023 exam Convener.

CAT is the key to securing admission to MBA and PGP programs at Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). It’s also recognized by around 1200 other top B-schools in India, including MDI Gurugram, SPJIMR, IMT, FMS, IM, IITs, GIM, GLIM, LIBA, NITIE, MICA, IRMA, and more.

Here are some essential CAT 2023 dates you should mark on your calendar:

  • CAT 2023 Notification Date: July 30, 2023

  • CAT Admit Card Release Date: October 25, 2023

CAT Exam Pattern

CAT 2023 consists of three sections

  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC),
  • Quantitative Ability (QA).

Each section has a time limit, and there’s negative marking for wrong answers. CAT 2023 follows the same pattern as the previous year. It includes three sections with a total of 66 questions. The test is for 198 marks and lasts for 2 hours. Questions are in English and can be multiple-choice (MCQ) or short answer (TITA).

CAT 2023 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for CAT 2023, you need a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC, ST, and PWD/DA candidates). If you’re in the final year of your bachelor’s degree, you can still apply.

The CAT 2023 Application Process

The CAT 2023 application process involves three steps:

  • Create login credentials.
  • Fill in your academic details.
  • Pay the CAT 2023 registration fee.

You can complete these steps on the official CAT website (https://iimcat.ac.in). The registration fee is INR 2,400 for general category candidates and INR 1,200 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.

Syllabus Highlights

  • While there’s no official syllabus, you can prepare for CAT 2023 based on previous questions. Key topics for each section include:
  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC): Reading comprehension, para jumbles, para summary, verbal reasoning, etc.
  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR): Charts, graphs, arrangements, blood relations, puzzles, etc.
  • Quantitative Ability (QA): Algebra, arithmetic, number systems, geometry, permutations and combinations, mensuration, etc.

The CAT 2023 Admit Card

Only registered candidates can download the CAT 2023 admit card. You’ll find it on the official IIM CAT website by logging in with your ID and password. The admit card contains important details about your test center and date.

Answer Key and Results

After the CAT 2023 exam, IIM will release a provisional answer key. You can download it from the official CAT website and use it to calculate your percentile. The results are expected in the last week of December and will be available online.

CAT 2023 Cutoff

Different IIMs may have different cutoffs. CAT cutoffs for IIMs generally range from 95-100 percentile for all categories.

The Selection Process

If you meet the CAT 2023 cutoff, you’ll enter the selection process, which can include Written Ability Tests (WAT), Group Discussions (GD), and Personal Interviews (PI). Various IIMs and MBA colleges may have different admission processes.

CAT scores are highly respected and accepted by numerous institutions, including IIMs and non-IIMs. This includes prestigious institutions like the IITs, IISc Bangalore, NITs, JNU, IMT Ghaziabad, IPU, MDI Gurgaon, and SPJIMR Mumbai.
